Foreman in charge of Welbeck Abbey tunnels and Newark Church spire on behalf of (eccentric) Duke of Portland.
Reputed to be the strongest man in Nottinghamshire.
Came to Quarry Farm, Stoneyford Road in 1866. Built on two middle rooms in 1867, and two end rooms in 1882.
Builder, quarry owner, farmer (3 farms).
Engaged to Ann Straw, Carsic Lane, but she died before they were married.
Carted all the stone for the building of St Michaels Church, and gave all the lime free of charge.

Living Stoneyford Road in 1891 census William was the Foreman in charge of the building of the Welbeck Abbey Tunnels and the Newark Church Spire on behalf of the Duke of Portland. He came to the Quarry on Stoneyford Road in 1866 and built the middle room in 1867 and two end rooms in 1882 Was engaged to Ann Straw of Carsic Lane but she died before they married. He carted all the stone used in the building of St Michael's Parish Church on Outram Street Sutton in Ashfield and gave all the lime used.
