Elizabeth Hunt (nee Rowland)

  General Notes:

Both 1851 census: Joseph (aged 42), Elizabeth (aged 51), James (aged (18), Mary (aged 16), Joseph (aged 12), Sarah (aged 9).

Both Joseph (aged 53) and Elizabeth (aged 61) were alive in 1861 census.
Lived at Ladys Lane, Denby. Joseph described as coal miner, and Elizabeth as coal miner's wife.Joseph and Elizabeth were alive in 1861 census.
Lived at Ladys Lane, Denby.

Both Joseph (aged 62) and Elizabeth (aged 71) were alive in 1871 census.
Lived at Denby 'Villige', two households from the Vicarage. Joseph described as coal miner, and Elizabeth as coal-miner's wife. Had three lodgers from Belper: John Underwood (aged 23), a railway pointsman; Ann Bell Underwood (aged 24), and Elizabeth Underwood (aged 1).

Elizabeth Rowland.....(my 4th cousin 4 times removed)...she was born Elizabeth Rowland to James and Mary Rowland, she married a Thomas Hunt 24 Dec 1821 at Denby, he died 3 1/2 years later, leaving her with John (1822) and Elizabeth Hunt (1823), however, before she married secondly to Joseph Caulton (29 Jan 1832 Duffield) a third child 'miraculously appeard, Thomas Hunt, born 1830, at Denby.He married Ann Wood in 1853.

the Ann Underwood above, was Elizabeth (Rowland, Hunt) Caulton's grand daughter from her daughter Elizabeth (1823) who married a Daniel Leivers, Ann was the product of that marriage and went on to marry John Underwood, Also mentioned above.

Issue (probably resolved by Jay):

There was some doubt whether Joseph married an Elizabeth Rowland or an Elizabeth Hunt. Cathy Johnson's research suggests that Elizabeth Rowland married a Thomas Hunt (28 May 1798 - 16 March 1825) on 24 Dec 1821. She then remarried Joseph Caulton after Thomas's death, on either 2 Jan 1832 at Duffield or 9 Dec 1832. Cathy also has a Thomas Hunt junior living wth them in the 1841 (? check) census as son in law, which could also mean step-son. However, if Thomas Hunt died and she remarries, she should have been Elizabeth Hunt on remarriage, not Elizabeth Rowland. This is very confusing, and all needs verifying.

A search on James' birth record at Family Search lists mother as Elizabeth Rowland, and christening date as 9 Dec 1832 (the date Cathy thinks is most likely as Joseph and Elizabeth's wedding date!).

Elizabeth married Joseph Caulton, son of Joseph Caulton and Pheobe Calton, on 9 Dec 1832. (Joseph Caulton was born in 1809 in Denby, Derbyshire, christened on 28 Mar 1813 and died circa 1875.)
