Hilda had been engaged to someone else before marrying Billy Wallbank who died. Her mother Maria was very worried that Hilda would die also as she refused to eat for sometime afterwards and became very ill herself. Rose Easom's Auntie Nellie said Ernest was a wonderful man and that she and Lucy (who were children at the time) both wanted to marry him and were very jealous of Hilda.
Hilda married George William (Billy) Wallbank. (George William (Billy) Wallbank was born in 1902 in Kirkby in Ashfield.)
